How to Recycle

Recipe - Healthy fruit crumble

Naturally sweet, wholesome and adaptable

A naturally sweet and simple bake that’s as good for breakfast as it is for dessert. Make once, mix it up all week.

1. Prep it!

Taking just a little time to prep can save you loads later in the week.

Base ingredients: Simply mix oats, wholemeal flour, and a drizzle of honey or maple syrup with coconut oil or butter to create a golden crumble topping. Layer over soft, ripe fruit and bake until bubbling and crisp.

Supercharge with flavour and goodness:

The average family wastes £84 of food a month – but you can save money and waste less by using up what you already have. Supercharging makes your meal go further, saves food from the bin, and boosts the flavour.

Boost the crumble with roasted apples or pears, bananas, plums, berries or rhubarb. Stir in chopped nuts or seeds for crunch, and warm spices like cinnamon or nutmeg for extra depth.

2. Flex it!

This is the beauty of smart cooking – one base, endless options. Flexing keeps it exciting, saves time, and means you always have a tasty, easy option ready to go.

Your fruit crumble can transform into something new throughout the week.

As a pudding - Served with custard, cream or ice cream.

As a breakfast bowl - Loaded up with a dollop of yoghurt and extra nuts and raisons

As a quick toast topper - Spread toast with peanut butter, honey or jam, then layer with crumble mix for extra crunch and flavour.

3. Recycle it!

Whatever way you serve your crumble, don’t forget the last step: Recycle what can’t be eaten! Those banana peels, apple cores, inedible peelings and pips go straight into your food waste caddy.

In Wales, food waste is turned into renewable energy to power our communities and fertiliser for local farms. Just one caddy full can power a typical home for almost an hour!

And each time you recycle, you’re pushing Wales closer to the world’s top recycling spot!
